Resolutions can be the key to positive change and the turn of a new year gives us the perfect opportunity to implement them.

This year we want to focus on the personal changes we can make to be the best versions of ourselves, to better ourselves and our communities.

We want to feel healthy, strong, intelligent and present. Here are our tips:

  • Move more

This one is a feature on most resolution lists. However, exercise isn’t just important for physical health, it is also essential for our mental health.

As well as reducing the risk of physical illness, exercise also makes us feel good because it stimulates the release of neurotransmitters such as endorphins, dopamine and serotonin that help to improve our mood, drive and outlook on life. Movement also pumps blood to the brain helping us to think clearly and be more focused.

Exercise looks different for all of us, so do more of what makes you feel great. Whether that’s a bit of healthy competitive team sports, getting out in nature for a surf or hike, or going within for a yoga class, it’s your call. Start by doing what you enjoy and connect with people and the environment at the same time.

  • Rest your body and mind

Research has shown that sleep deprivation can increase the risk of illnesses so this is an important one! A good night’s sleep can help to improve memory and clarity and is also important for your good mood and mental health as it helps to decrease stress and anxiety.

Put your phone in the other room, turn your salt lamp on, have a cup of herbal tea. Whatever your bedtime routine is, take your time.

  • Live and eat mindfully

We hear this word a lot, “Mindful” and it’s all about being present in this moment, right now.

So stop. Focus on the breath. Sink those feet into the sand and just be for a moment.

Pause before you eat, slow down and think about what you are eating and most of all, enjoy your nutritious food.

  • Do your bit

It’s time to take responsibility for the environment around us. Consider where you get your food and how it’s produced. Support local business that implement practices that support our environment.

  • Eat more greens

Broccoli, kale, watercress, spinach…you name it. They are packed with vitamins and minerals that support your body’s detoxification pathways, helping to eliminate toxins that accumulate. Especially during this festive seas. Add them to every meal.Eat them everyday! That’s your multivitamin right there!
